The optician some years ago suggested varfocals for me but I resisted. I didn't quite understand why I would need them as I don't need specs to read. I do find that with my single lenses steps are a bit wonky looking and I don't like that.
I expect you might get used to your new ones in due course. It's a bit expensive to start from scratch :-( My prescription, remarkably, hadn't changed last visit.
