Here are some more of the questions from the meme referenced in my previous post. The missing ones either don't apply to me, strike me as inappropriate, or I can't think of anything to say about them.

8. What community do you wish was more active?

The one I created, [community profile] anti_recs. It's always a squee moment when somebody posts to it, but it's not the sort of thing you can run challenges on. Yeah, I know, I should promo it sometimes.

I'm subscribed to lots of communities which don't show up on my reading page and I forget about them. It would be nice if some of them were more active but I couldn't pick out one in particular. I'm usually so far behind on reading (let alone commenting, let alone posting) that I don't notice something's missing until it shows up again or somebody points it out.

9. Are there two people on your reading list that you think should meet?

I don't know, I think most of them know each other already! I expand my circle mostly by spotting people in other people's comments.

10. Tell me about your default icon.

It's a cartoon of me that I made in a dollmaker, so I'd have something representing myself that isn't a photo, because several of the people on my reading list have them and they're neat.

11. What features do you think Dreamwidth should have that it doesn't currently?

Being able to make notes on posts on your reading page, that are still there when you re-load the page, possibly on another computer. The main thing I'd want this for is to note when I read the comments, so I can find new ones, but also "Must comment, when my head is in the right place", "Watch these videos when broadband is less flaky" etc. I tried using Memories for "Read this after I see the movie (spoilers)", but then I have to remember that it's there and what I tagged it with, and they hang around after they're no longer relevant. ... Maybe this is something I could put in [site community profile] dw_suggestions.

Also, being able to make posts disappear (if you don't want to read them, or have read them and don't want to keep up with comments) to make room for posts that you do want to keep up with. There was a suggestion in [site community profile] dw_suggestions - Hide and reveal entries on Reading page - which would do the second, and serve part of the purpose of the first. I think it was put in Bugzilla but hasn't been coded. There's a Greasemonkey script, but I don't have Greasemonkey installed (my browser takes long enough to load as it is, on this computer and on the laptop. Also, not everyone has Firefox), I assume it doesn't transfer across if you don't always use the same computer, and not being Dreamwidth-native means that Dreamwidth can't read more posts to fill the gap. This is the feature I would offer points for developers to work on, if I had a job.

I wish I could see the description of icons (hoping it will include the text that I can't read, or tell me who the characters are) without going to the person's icons page and hunting for the right one; but I don't want to lose showing the keywords and I don't know how you'd fit it in. The version of Firefox on this computer doesn't show the alt text in the new version of what used to be image properties, and I don't think alt text and title text should be different anyway because that creates accessibility problems.

With certain recent events in mind, being able to create and export a backup of your entire journal complete with comments would be really useful for some people. I don't think I'd use it myself but it would be a Good Thing and a selling point.

I'm sure I could think of more things that would Make Dreamwidth Even More Awesome, but we're getting towards magic wand territory. I just realised I've been writing this post for an hour! *finds Update Date button* "Turning what I'm thinking into coherent English with working links" would be a way cool superpower for a website to have ...

17. How many people on your reading list do you know IRL?

I don't know any of them off-line (hey! This is real life!) None of my off-line friends who I've invited are interested.

19. Any questions from the audience?

Ask me in comments! If I don't want to answer, I just won't, so there.

21. What's your favorite thing about Dreamwidth?

I don't know that I have one favourite thing. It would be either the "ad-free by design" philosophy, the responsiveness of the management, or the amazing people I've met here.
