On our side of the pond, PBS produced a six-part series presented by "Skip" Gates, the chair of the Afro-American Studies Dept at Harvard. I'm sure it's not as penetrating as your BBC doc, but Gates is truly talented at speaking with strangers, inviting the viewers along to meet them and their histories. Plus beautiful landscapes touring all over the continent, as well as an appropriate sensitivity to the slave trade.
